From hand-cut frames to modern timber innovation - rooted in tradition, driven by precision.
Crafting Timber Frames Since 1986
In 2004, Green Apple House moved to the Charlotte area — now operating out of Gastonia and Waxhaw, NC, where we're building our new 14,800 sq ft Timber Design Center.
What sets us apart? We don’t just design timber structures — we fabricate them too, in close collaboration with our trusted partner in Rockwood, TN. This tight-knit process means your project flows seamlessly from concept to completion, with precision in every detail.
Since 1986, Green Apple House has honored the art of traditional timber framing - working with native American woods and hand-cut joinery. But we’ve never stood still.
By 2002, we began blending that craftsmanship with CAD precision, machine-cutting European spruce glulam and integrating Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). In 2016, we took it further by launching Cox Laminated Timber - our modern arm focused on cutting-edge design, advanced fastening systems, and European building technology.
The result? A rare balance of old-world quality and modern efficiency - delivering stronger, smarter timber structures with timeless beauty.
Green Apple House (GAH) and its precursor, Thos. Woodhouse and Company have been delivering timber framing services and precision frame cutting for nearly four decades. Founded and operated by Thomas Cox, GAH has completed 494 timber frame projects across the United States, with focus in the Southeast.
Mr. Cox directly involved in every project - overseeing design, managing field operations, and often onsite throughout the framing process. Green Apple House operates with small, skilled team based in Gastonia and Waxhaw, North Carolina, and holds a North Carolina General Contractor’s license.
Design Meets Sustainability
Our approach, called Modulus Efficiency (ME), is rooted in green design principles: minimizing waste by designing within the actual dimensions of building materials. It’s blend of precision and responsibility - working smarter to reduce waste while delivering timeless, high-performance timber structures.
GAH is proud to be member of The Timber Frames Guild and WoodWorks.org.
